Vard Holdings said it has won a contract for the design and construction of one Offshore Construction and Anchor Handling Vessel for REM Offshore. REM Offshore is a Norwegian shipping company focusing on remoter underwater operations and supplying anchor handling-and-platform vessels.
The contract value is about NOK800 million ($168 million). The vessel will be based on the Vard 2.06 design, recently developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway. Delivery is scheduled from Vard Brattvaag in Norway in 1Q2016, with the hull of the vessel delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.
The new vessel is designed to perform advanced operations with the use of A-frame and winch systems. The vessel can accommodate a crane with a capacity of 150 tons, and is designed for the more demanding operations of the deep water segment. It can accommodate 90 persons and includes several offices and work stations.
